What is Prep?
Prep is a specially designed educational program for schools offered on a full-time basis.
The curriculum
Prep students work from the Australian Curriculum for the Key Learning Areas of English, Mathematics, Science and History. A child's learning in the three areas of Social and personal learning, Heath and Physical learning, and Active learning processes based on the Early Years Curriculum Guidelines.
Who is eligible?
Children will need to be five by 30 June in the year they enrol in Prep.
When to enrol?
The school will advertise dates for open days, orientation days, prep enrolment interviews throughout the year. For more information or to have your child's name added to the waiting list, please phone the school on 3897 5333.
Prep Interviews
Parents will have to book a 30 minute interview with one of the Prep Teachers or one of the Administration Team to complete your child's enrolment. During this interview, children will complete a simple screener and the school collects this valuable information to help us allocate the appropriate teachers to cater for the needs of each student. We will also gather any important information needed to ensure your child has a successful start to school.
Your child's birth certificate MUST be presented at this enrolment interview.
Each child enrolling in Prep MUST attend an interview prior to starting at Kippa-Ring State School.
Prep Transition Program
The Transition Program in term 4 is a successful program that allows Pre-Prep students the opportunity to attend a Prep classroom this year so they get first-hand experience of what 'big school' will look like.
While the children participate in school activities, school information sessions are held for parents. These information sessions are designed to help families get organised for Prep. We discuss the organisation and structure of Prep, including:
Literacy and Numeracy and the Australian Curriculum
Oral language discussion with a speech therapist
Fine motor skills discussion with an occupational therapist
Uniforms
Resources
Behaviour management
Introduction to key staff
Lunch boxes and brain break
First day routines
Homework
Parent Q&A
If you have any queries, please contact the school on 3897 5333.
